Cleansed by Fire
2008-10-05 14:44September 31, Day 32–The Word– "May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it" (1 Thes. 5:23).
Isaiah had been prophesying "Woe to you" to others. (Isa. 3:9,11; 5:8, 11, 18-22). But when he found Himself in the presence of a holy God, he cried "Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips" (6:3).
What Isaiah confessed was what God touched and cleansed. "Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, 'See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for" (6:6-7).
An amazing change took place when God's fire cleansed him. Isaiah began hearing God speaking. "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?'"
Now that Isaiah has been cleansed, he does not need to be coerced or even addressed directly. With a purified heart, he simply needs an opportunity to volunteer. He cannot keep silent. "Will I do? Send me!"
God is always calling for those who will go for Him, but until we are single-minded about pleasing Him, our self-interests hinder us.
